A policeman attached to the Galle Police has been admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital in critical condition after he was hit on the head with a club during a clash between police and several youth, allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Four policemen were dispatched to a location at Kuduwa Junction in Dadalla, Galle following a complaint received via the police emergency hotline at 3.00am this morning regarding a brawl at a wedding reception.
A group of youth who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol had then clashed with the policemen, during which one of the officers was hit on the head with a club.
The suspects had also proceeded to attack the police jeep, causing the front windscreen to shatter.
The injured police officer has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Karapitiya Hospital and he is said to be in critical condition.
Four suspects have been arrested so far over the incident while they are expected to be produced at the Galle Magistrate’s Court.
