A young Sub-Inspector attached to Chilaw Police was killed while a Constable was critically wounded following a motorcycle accident in the Ariyagama area while on their way to carry out a raid last night.
The motorcycle ridden by the SI had reportedly veered off the road crashed into a light post on the roadside.
Ayesh Alahakoon, 26, a resident of Kandy, had been assigned to the Chilaw police crimes unit and was on his way to raid a location suspected of brewing and selling illicit liquor with two other policemen on two motorcycles.
The Police Constable (PC) who had sustained critical injuries following the accident is currently receiving treatment at the Chilaw Hospital.
Chilaw Police Traffic Unit is conducting an investigation into the incident.
