The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Joint Trade Unions Forum has called off their fast following a discussion with the Prime Minister this morning (11).
The fast was called off as the union got assurance of receiving New year bonuses and other demands, it was reported.
The collective of trade unions had previously engaged in work-to-rule action however as the authorities failed to provide solutions to their issues, four including trade union leaders sat down for the protest fast, Jathika Sevaka Sangamya (JSS) President of Ports Authority Udeni Kaluthanthri told Ada Derana.
He accused Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga and his brother SLPA Chairman Dhammika Ranatunga of using “underworld thugs” to threaten workers while a trade union action is legally in effect.
