Over 1,000 arrests for drunken driving

A total of 238 motorists have been arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol within the past 24 hours, police said.
A majority of the arrested are motorcyclists (124) while 73 three-wheeler drivers, 20 car drivers, 9 van drivers and 5 lorry drivers have also been arrested, the police media unit said.
Three drivers of private passenger transport buses were also arrested within the past 24 hours during the special police operation to nab drunken drivers.
The operation is being carried out since April 10 while so far a total of 1,056 motorists have been arrested for driving under the influence.
