The University of Kelaniya has been closed for a period of one week due to a disease which had been spreading in the hostels, Vice-Chancellor of the University Senior Professor Sunanda Madduma Bandara said.

 

He stated that the decision was taken by the university administration based on the advice of the university’s chief medical officer and the Kelaniya Public Health Inspectors’ Office. 

 

The university, except for the Medical Faculty in Ragama, will be closed from today (April 26) till next Tuesday (May 03) while it will reopen on May 04. 

 

The Vice Chancellor said that all students have been instructed to evacuate from the hostels before 5.00pm today.
