The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says that putting the entire burden on the people has become the economic policy of the government.

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that it has been nearly a year-and-a-half since Maithripala Sirisena became President, Ranil Wickremesinghe became Prime Minister and Ravi Karunanayake became Finance Minister.

He stated that it is more than enough time to measure the good or bad of any government and that the people have realized the economic actions, policies of the government during this period have not managed to take their lives even an inch forward.

What is the point of such an economy if farmers cannot sell their paddy, tea cultivators are unable to get a good price and small rubber estate owners have no way of tapping rubber, the MP inquired.

Dissanayake said that the Sri Lankan rupee is currently facing its worst ever depreciation and the country is under a mountain of debt. “Burdening the general public with this entire weight has become the government’s policy.”
