The petition filed by former Minister Rosy Senanayake which sought a recount of the preferential votes at the last General Election was dismissed by the Supreme Court today (16).
The decision made when the petition was taken up for hearing before a bench comprising Chief Justice K. Sripavan, Ada Derana reporter said.
The petition requested to issue an order requesting the elections chief to order a recount of the preferential votes.
Former State Minister and UNP candidate Senanayake failed in her bid for re-election at the General Election 2015. Several prominent political figures from both the United National Party (UNP) and the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) had failed to secure their positions.
According to reports, Senanayake had obtained some 65,320 votes at the election.
