
Another amnesty period has been announced by the Ministry of Defence from May 30 to June 17 to handover illegal firearms.
More than 400 firearms were handed over to authorities during the amnesty period declared from April 25 to May 06.
The ministry said that another amnesty period was announced due to multiple request from the public.
During the aforementioned period illegal weapons can be handed over to the nearest Divisional Secretariat, District Secretary offices and police stations.
The Defence Ministry had announced that during the amnesty period, persons returning the weapon will not be subjected to any fines for holding a weapon.
