
Following a raid carried out based on information received by Kelaniya Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel, three suspects have been arrested in connection with a counterfeit currency notes racket in the Warana area in Kalagedihena, Weeragula.
The STF said that initially two persons were arrested for the possession of 10 fake currency notes of the Rs 1,000 denomination near a Buddhist temple in Warana.
After they were interrogated, information regarding the mastermind behind the operation was uncovered while he was arrested at a residence in the Kalagedihena area.
STF personnel discovered another 40 counterfeit notes of the Rs 1,000 denomination and also seized a laptop and other equipment used to print the notes.
The arrested suspects have been handed over to Weeragula Police for onward action.
