Four arrested while digging for treasure

A 62-year-old woman, her 21-year-old son and two teenagers have been arrested engaging in illegal excavations allegedly in search of buried treasure in the Madatugama area in Anuradhapura.
They had reportedly engaged in digging at the property where the mother and son were living, with the help of two teenage relatives, under the disguise of digging a well behind their home.
Machinery and various equipment used to carry out the excavations have also been taken into custody.
The arrested suspects are to be produced before the Kekirawa Magistrate today.
