The Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) claims that a member of the North Western Provincial Council has verbally abused and threatened the principal of the Medagampala School in Giriulla.
Condemning the alleged incident, CTU General Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe stated that legal action should be taken against certain politicians who use their political power when dealing with institutions and officials.
He claimed that North Western Provincial Councillor Sumith Rajapaksha had verbally abused and threatened the female principal after she refused to agree to the school grounds being used for certain activities including to construct a Poson pandal.
Mr Jayasinghe also charged that when the principal in question had visited the Alawwa Police Station to lodge a complaint regarding the incident the officer-in-charge (OIC) had refused to accept the complaint.
