Minister P. Digambaram today warned that he will leave the government along with 5 other Tamil parliamentarians if upcountry politicians who did not support President Maithripala Sirisena during the election are given ministerial portfolios.

Addressing an event held in Kotagala today (17), he said it has been reported that a certain upcountry politician is now asking for a ministerial portfolio and that the government and President is going to give it to him.

“We would like to tell the President and the Prime Minister that it was I, Radhakrishnan and Mano Ganesan who managed to garner the most number of estate votes (for Maithripala Sirisena) on January 08.”

He charged that the politician who is now attempting to join the government had attempted to sabotage a meeting attended by Ranil Wickremesinghe in Thalawakele during the presidential election by blocking the road with a musical show at Kotagala to obstruct thousands of their supporters travelling in buses.

“People like that are now trying to join the government.”

“There are six of us. The government has to decide whether it wants 6 people or 2,” the Minister of Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development said.
