Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga says that there is no trade union struggle at the Colombo harbour and only a movement to protect thieves is in action.
Addressing a press briefing in Colombo today (22), he said that there is no legal organisation called the ‘Joint Trade Union Collective’ and that it is a makeshift organisation created by several trade union leaders in order to fulfill their narrow objectives.
He stated that this so called organisation is staging protests and Satyagraha but so far it has not requested for any demands or discussions in writing.
It is only dashing coconuts and staging displays for the media circus similar to those recently carried out by opposition MPs against the government, he said.
Ranatunga claimed that these trade union leaders are fulfilling the needs of those politicians.
