
The Ministry of Health says that around 21,000 dengue cases have been reported across the island so far this year.
The ministry said that the dengue epidemic has currently spread to 11districts including Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Matale, Galle, Matara,Jaffna, Kurunegala, Puttalam and Ratnapura.
It said that Kurunegala, Ratnapura and Kalutara districts have especially shown a rapid increase in dengue patients with around 1,500 cases being reported a week.
The ministry launched a three-day dengue eradication programme on Thursday (30) covering 10 districts.
Around 500 teams comprised with the officers of tri- forces and health sector are conducting the inspections in 25 MoH divisions. The ministry believes that the epidemic situation could be controlled by the end of July if the inspections continued.
