
The Ukrainian captain of the ‘Avant-Garde’ vessel, who was arrested by the CID, has been further remanded till July 18 after being produced at the Galle Magistrate’s Court today.
He was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Galle Harbour in connection with the ongoing investigation pertaining to the vessel.
The arrest was made under charges of illegally importing firearms to Sri Lanka and illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
Gennady Gavrilov, 43, was arrested at around 8.00pm on June 23, detained at the Galle Harbour Police Station and produced before the Galle Magistrate. The CID is conducting further investigations, Police Headquarters said.
