Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake says that the “Joint Opposition” is appointing a Shadow Cabinet because its members are living in a different world after siphoning public funds for the past 11 years.
“These rouges will have no place to hide very soon,” he predicted.
Our only weakness is that corruption investigations are moving at a very slow pace, the minister said, speaking to reporters after a ceremony organised to commemorate the 43rd death anniversary of former minister V. A. Sugathadasa in Colombo today (10).
He said that even though the investigations into corruption allegations against the former government are moving very slowly, justice will be done and the people’s aspirations will be fulfilled.
Karunanayake claimed that bankrupt politicians who are expected to go to prisons very soon are now “struggling” with this shadow cabinet. “Those who are struggling the most are the biggest rouges.”
He said they are living in a “fairy tale world” are attempting to get a small satisfaction out of such shadow ministerial posts.
It was this shadow cabinet together with Mahinda Rajapaksa pushed the country to the brink of bankruptcy during the past 11 years, the Finance Minister charged.
