University staff to stage token strike from midnight today

The Inter University Trade Union Joint Committee (IUTUJC) will resort to a strike action from midnight today (12) as the authorities have failed to address their demands, an official said.
The official added that a token strike will be staged as talks failed with the Ministry of Higher Education and the University Grants Commission top officials.
Meanwhile, the Inter University Student Federation (IUSF) says that protests will be held in universities across the island including in North West, Rajarata, South East, and Colombo over the decision to arrest its convener.
Convener of the IUSF, Lahiru Weerasekara, who was arrested for violating a court order, has been remanded till next Friday (15).
