Heavy traffic congestion has been reported in the Pettah area due to a protest being staged by shop owners and traders against the increase of Value Added Tax (VAT).
Police request motorists to use alternate routes in order to avoid inconveniences.
Protests against the VAT increase were recently held in various parts of the country.
