The parents of Fathima (Nimisha) and Eeza (Bexon Vincent), the couple from Kerala, India who have allegedly joined the Islamic State have told media-persons that they did not have any contact with them after they left for Sri Lanka for studying Islam.
The New Indian Express (NIE) reported that indian police have registered case against Palakkad-native Yahya aka Bestin Vincent, husband of Mariyam who went missing from the city in June and allegedly joined terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS).
Mumbai-based spiritual leader Arshi Qureshi has also been included in the case registered under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, based on a complaint lodged by Mariyam’s brother Ebin Jacob. Ernakulam Central Assistant Commissioner K V Vijayan has launched an inquiry into the plaint.
According to the police, Yahya and Mariyam (earlier Merin Jacob) got to know each other when they were working in Mumbai. The relationship culminated in Yayha marrying 22-year-old Merin, who was later converted into Islam on the insistence of the former. After marriage, Merin adopted the name ‘Mariyam.’
