A crucial discussion with respect of the issues related to the non-academic staff of state universities will be held today (07).
A source from the Ministry of Higher Education says several meetings in this regard were held yesterday as well.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) had earlier notified all non-academic staff who are currently on strike to report to work on Aug 05.
Those on probation and training would be considered as having vacated their posts if they fail to report to duties tomorrow, UGC Chairman Professor Mohan de Silva said in a statement.
However, the spokesman of the University Trade Union Joint Committee K.L.D.G. Richmond says that the oppressive actions of the government cannot halt their trade union action. If the government proceeds to suppress workers and ignore their just demands, we would have to resort to stronger trade union action, he told Ada Derana.
