Airport authorities have deported a Muslim couple and their child who had arrived in Sri Lanka from Dubai this morning with false passports.
The family had arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake onboard Air-Arabia flight G9501 and detained due to a suspicion by immigration officials.
It was then discovered the mother and son were traveling with a forged U.A.E. passport while the father was in possession of a German passport.
Upon inspecting their luggage, officials also found two Lebanese refugee passports belonging to the suspects, who were preparing to fly to Germany on Sunday (14).
They were further interrogated due to arriving in the country using forged passports and concealing information, an official told Ada Derana.
He said that steps were taken to notify intelligence units as they have received instructions to stay alert regarding attempts by members of the Islamic State terror group and those supporting them to enter the country.
They were subsequently deported as per the instructions of the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, he said.
