Sri Lanka’s Leader of the Opposition R. Sampanthan says that even though some of the lands have been released by the military in North and East, much more could have been done by the Government in this matter and that the resettlement processes too could have been speeded up.

He made these remarks during a meeting with the visiting Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg which took place in Colombo on Friday (12). 

The Leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) brought to the notice of the Prime Minister the various issues faced by the Tamil people in the North and East. 

“He pointed out even though some of the lands have been released by the military in North and East, there could have been much more done by the Government in this matter. He further stated that the resettlement processes too could have been done speedily by the Government,” a statement said. 

Speaking on framing the new constitution and the processes towards it, Sampanthan stressed that the resolution to the national question must be found in the new constitution. 

Speaking at the meeting with regard to the Office of the Missing Person’s bill, TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran said it’s a positive step that Government has taken in finding the truth which will lead to a true reconciliation.  

Prime Minister Solberg assured that Norway would continuously and constructively be engaged with Sri Lanka in supporting to its Economic development and also in the reconciliation process.
