A person was killed due to a hit-and-run accident at a pedestrian crossing in the Katuneria area on the Colombo-Chilaw main road, police said.
The victim was seriously injured in the accident, and succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Marawila Base Hospital.
The victim was a 52- year old resident at Bankada Junction, Katuneria. He was hit by a car while crossing the road.
The driver has fled without stopping the vehicle and investigations are underway to arrest him.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident a person was killed in a road accident at Ewariyawatta, Wattala.
A motorcycle rider travelling towards Wattala had lost control, toppled and collided head–on with a lorry. The motorcyclist was seriously injured and has succumbed to injuries before being admitted to Ragama Hospital.
The victim is a 58-year old resident of Wanawasala area, Kelaniya.
The remain of the deceased has been placed at the Ragama Hospital and the postmortem examination will be conducted today (01).
