
The Navy has apprehended three local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing practices at two separate locations.
Accordingly, naval personnel attached to SLNS Kashyapa located in Vakarei belonging to the Eastern Naval Command, arrested two fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using monofilament nets in the seas off Kaththankudi. The arrested persons and the items were handed over to the Batticaloa Fisheries Inspector for onward investigations.
Another fisherman engaged in illegal fishing practices using unauthorized nets in the sea area off Waleipadu, was apprehended by the naval personnel attached to SLNS Buwaneka located in Nachchikuda in the North Central Naval Command.
The arrested person and fishing net were produced to the Mannar Fisheries Inspector for further actions.
