
‘Exercise - ‘Cormorant Strike VII, Sri Lanka Army’s Field Training Exercise (FTX) which began with the participation of more than 3400 troops is now engaged in maneuvers in the Verugal area in the Eastern region.
According to army sources parachutists of the Special Forces launched a Combat Free Fall to observe ‘enemy hideouts’. A ‘Combat Heli Raffling’ was also conducted by two 8 man Special Force teams in Welikanda, the Defence Ministry said in a statement today.
The Exercise which encompasses simultaneous mock seaborne and airborne operations is expected to boost the operational capabilities and also maintain combat readiness of the troops. Operations in progress are based in the Eastern region. The local tri forces contingent is joined by 58 foreign participants and observers from Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and the USA this year.
