
Four police officers attached to the Hambantota Police Station suspended following the disappearance of a youth while in custody.
Police said that three Sergeants and one Constable have been suspended over the incident.
The decision comes just days after several police officers attached to the Hambantota police station were transferred over the same incident.
The youth is question had been arrested by police over his alleged connection with the theft of 80 sacks of paddy from a storage facility in Bandagiriya.
However, he had disappeared while in custody some 9 days ago and is still reported missing.
Meanwhile DIG Ajith Rohana, speaking to reporters yesterday, said that if investigations uncover that the Hambantota police officers had engaged in any criminal act, the law will be strictly implemented against them.
