A 26-year-old youth died while another 2 youths were critically injured after a car veered off the road and crashed into a telephone pole and a wall in the Ratgama area on the Galle-Colombo main road this morning.
Ada Derana reporter said that the accident took place at around 3.45am today (16) while the four youths, all friends in their twenties, were traveling towards Galle following a function at a hotel in Hikkaduwa.
According to eyewitnesses, the car had been traveling at a high speed before it hit into a roadside telephone pole and a wall before coming to a stop. The vehicle was also severely damaged in the accident.
The driver of the car had fled the scene after the incident while Ratgama Police are conducting an investigation to apprehend him.
Osanda Dissanayake, 26, had succumbed to injuries on the way to the Karapitiya Hospital while the other two youths are receiving treatment in the ICU of the hospital.
