A sixteen-year-old youth has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing and murdering his father at Rookatenne Estate in Hali-Ela.
Badulla Police said that preliminary investigations have uncovered that the teenager had carried out the stabbing in a fit of anger after his drunken father had assaulted his mother.
The suspect, who is employed in Colombo, had returned home for the weekend in order to attend a function at his hometown temple.
He had rushed home from the function after being told by his sister regarding the assault on his mother and had proceeded to attack his 41-year-old father using a sharp object, causing the death.
The arrested teen is to be produced at the Badulla Magistrate’s Court today (17) while Badulla Police is conducting further investigations.
