
It is the duty of the government to transport water from other areas to provide relief to the people of the drought affected areas, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says.
Media Secretary to the former President issuing a statement said, “People living in certain parts of the country have been severely affected by the prevailing drought and lack water for drinking and day to day purposes.
It is the duty of the government to transport water from other areas to provide relief to the people of the drought affected areas. Therefore former president Mahinda Rajapaksa requests the responsible government authorities to make the necessary arrangements without delay.
Furthermore, the former President also believes the private sector and particularly the private media organizations would step in to organize relief efforts as they have done on previous occasions.”
