UPFA MP Pavithra Wanniarachchi says that while it was her father who taught politics to Minister John Seneviratne, but it is not the kind of politics he is now engaging in.

She was responding to a question from journalists regarding the comments made by the Minister of Labour and Trade Union Affairs yesterday (6) about her and the venue of the Joint Opposition’s rally on October 8.

Seneviratne had said that Wanniarachchi was lying that the request for booking Sivali Grounds in Ratnapura was rejected by the relevant authorities and that they had only requested a lorry park.

However, Wanniarachchi said she was not lying and produced a letter from the Ratnapura Municipal Commissioner as proof of the request being rejected.

She also said that the “cat was let out of the bag” yesterday as to who had pressured the Municipal Commissioner to turn down the request for the ground to be used to host the Joint Opposition meeting.

Wanniarachchi said that they intend to file a human rights complaint with regard to the matter.

She alleged that the minister had verbally abused the municipal councilors who were yesterday engaged decorating the Ratnapura town in preparation of the event.

She also claimed that young supporters who were voluntarily pasting posters regarding the meeting at byroads in Ratnapura have been assaulted.

“We never lie to the media or any other place for that matter. We only presented the actual facts. We have also the evidence in writing to prove this,” the MP said.
