Sri Lanka Army celebrates its 67th Anniversary today (10). The army began their anniversary celebrations with a series of multi religious ceremonies held at various places of worship beginning from the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth) in Kandy and culminating at a Pirith Chanting and alms giving ceremony at Panagoda Sri Bodhirajaramaya yesterday (09th Sunday).

The Hindu religious ceremony was conducted at the Sri Ponnambalam Vaneshwarar Kovil in Kotahena while the Islamic prayers session was held at the Jumma Masjidh in Colpetty and the Christian Service, at the All Saints? Church in Borella.

Sri Lanka Army led the tri forces in the fight against terrorism. The achievement of the army during the three decade long conflict is widely recognized both here and abroad. The role it played during the humanitarian operations which wiped out the scourge of terrorism from the shores of our country in May 2009 can be regarded as a unique milestone in the contemporary military history of the country in particular and the world in general.

Began as ‘Ceylon Army’ in 1949, and later changed as the Sri Lanka Army after the country became a Republic in 1972, Sri Lanka Army has sacrifices about 25,000 valuable lives of its men towards protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our motherland and ushering in an era of peace to the country.
