A Counsel representing MP Namal Rajapaksa has filed a lawsuit with the Colombo District Court against the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID).
The case was filed through his Attorney Athula de Silva on Monday (10), Attorney Ganesh Dharmawardena appearing on behalf of Namal Rajapaksa said.
Namal Rajapaksa was arrested by the FCID in July 2016 on the allegation of obtaining funds from a private company for the development of rugby in Sri Lanka.
The case argued that there is no legal basis for the FCID to arrest Namal Rajapaksa over this allegation, Ada Derana reporter said. Rajapaksa has also demanded Rs.100 million as compensation for defaming him.
The MP was arrested as he arrived at the FCID to give a statement regarding a financial transaction with Indian real estate company ‘Krrish Group’ on 11 July.
