Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that the national government’s first focus is to make Sri Lanka the hub of the Indian Ocean for business, logistics and finance.
He said that the government is moving towards the development of the country’s three major ports, which are Colombo, Hambantota and Trincomalee as well as the two large airports in Katunayake and Mattala.
“And within a Financial City, an offshore financial center between Singapore and Dubai.”
Wickremesinghe said that the industrialization of Hambantota is now planned and there are developments going on such as the public-private partnership for the Mattala Airport and the Hambantota Port.
“That is a very large expansion. We are working on this with the One Belt One Road project of China,” he said, delivering a speech during the World Export Development Forum 2016 in Colombo today (12).
He said that the second corridor that the government is developing is around Trincomalee.
