The Colombo High Court today rejected the bail application filed by former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, who was arrested and remanded for allegedly preparing a fraudulent document and releasing it to the media.
The former Health Minister was remanded till December 05 by the court, however attorneys representing Attanayake submitted a bail application yesterday (3) challenging the legality of the manner in which the indictments were filed against their client.
The former UNP General Secretary had been accused of forging the signatures of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Maithripala Sirisena in a letter and releasing it to the media, during the presidential election.
Attanayake, who defected from the then opposition and was made Health minister for less than three weeks, is accused of fabricating the document to discredit the President and the PM. Attanayake has said that the purported document was received by him the day he assumed duties as health minister.
