Over 100 mm of rain expected in several areas today

Fairly heavy falls about 75-100 mm can be expected at several places today, the Met. Department says.
The depression in the Central Bay of Bengal now located about 1500 km to the Northeast of Sri Lanka and it is likely to weaken. Hence, prevailing showery weather in the Southwestern part is expected to reduce to some extent from tomorrow.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in theSouthern, Central, Western, North-western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Mannar district.
Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere particularly, after 2.00 p.m. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces during the morning.
