
President Maithripala Sirisena had called an urgent Cabinet meeting this morning at the Presidential Secretariat, ahead of the presenting of the 2017 Budget to Parliament.
The purpose of the meeting had been to discuss the budget speech which will be delivered by the Minister of Finance at around 2.00pm in the Parliament today (10).
The basic framework of the budget proposal was extensively discussed during the meeting, according to reports.
Budget Speech (Second Reading of the 2017 Appropriation Bill) will be delivered by Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, who says that the Budget will be a pro-growth budget which will focus on the deficiencies for the last several years.
Minister Gayantha Karunathileka said that the Cabinet of Ministers have approved the 2017 Budget proposal at the meeting today.
