“The flower bud is not blooming and it’s not withering,” said Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management Wijith Wijayamuni Zoysa, referring to the newly created political party - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, under the symbol of the ‘budding flower’.
Responding to a question from reporters regarding punishing dissident SLFP members, he said: “Just because there is some left over in the pot, you don’t throw away the entire pot. You only throw away the left over. We wash the pot and keep it at home.”
Similar to that we cannot cut and remove everyone who made mistakes, the minister said.
He further stated that if the United National Party (UNP) had formed a government on its own after the election, the SLFP members would not be able to walk in the streets as they would get beaten up.
President of the SLFP Youth Front, former MP Shantha Bandara, who also addressed the media, said that what the party wants is for everyone to join together, irrespective of differences within the party.
“It is easy to divide but how are we going to win? That is what we have to decide.”
We believe that as an intelligent politician Mahinda Rajapaksa will never breakaway from the party, he said.
