The atmospheric disturbance in the Bay of Bengal still persists to the southeast of Sri Lanka and it is likely to develop in to a low pressure area, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Under the influence of the above system cloudy skies and showery conditions are expected to continue (especially 19th to 21st November), particularly in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western, Eastern and Uva provinces.
Issuing a weather advisory for the next 48 hours, it’s Early Warning Centre said that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the most parts of the island.
Heavy falls (above 100mm) can be expected at some places, particularly in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Eastern, Southern and Uva provinces.
Due to the active cloudiness around the sea areas over island, sudden roughness of the sea areas associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80kmph) is possible.
The Met Department requested naval and fishing communities to be vigilant in this regards.
