Police Constable arrested for accepting liquor bottle as bribe

A Police Constable (PC) attached to the traffic unit of the Medawachchiya Police Station has been arrested on a bribery charge by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

 

He was arrested in front of the Medawachchiya Bus Stand while accepting a bottle of liquor worth Rs 2,420 as a bribe from a motorcyclist who was caught riding a bike without a license. 

 

The arrested suspect will be produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court. 

 

The Bribery Commission urges the public to call the 24 hour hotline – 1954 with any information regarding incidents of bribes or corruption.
