The Court of Appeal Tuesday fixed a date for the appeal filed by the AG against the judgement of the Colombo High Court which acquitted Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera and several others for the alleged attack on the Cavalry Church in Thalahena at Malabe in 2008.
The High Court earlier in its judgement acquitted all the 14 accused including four monks.
The Accused were indicted for having committed offences of being members of an unlawful assembly to attack the said Calvary Church; and were also charged with causing damages to the Calvary Church, causing injuries to the two pastors, stealing a mobile phone worth Rs.15,000 and snatching a gold chain worth Rs.50,000 that belonged to a pastor.
The case will be taken up for hearing again on 20 January, 2017.
