Youth arrested for threats on President, PM further remanded

The 26-year-old youth who was arrested for allegedly issuing death threats to the President, Prime Minister and Opposition Leader on Facebook has been further remanded till December 29 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

 

When the case was taken up today, attorneys representing the defendant submitted a bail application on behalf of their client.

 

However, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) objected to this citing the gravity of the charge as it was regarding threats to murder heads of state.

 

The CID also said that Interpol assistance would be sought on the investigation. 

 

The Colombo Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansooriya ordered that the suspect be further remanded till December 29.
