Police officers today seized a 1200cc Ducati superbike, worth around Rs 4 million, which is believed to have been imported into the country by the son of a prominent politician in the former government.
The expensive motorcycle, which is not road legal in Sri Lanka, was discovered inside a room on Silversmith Lane during a special operation carried out by police in and around Abdul Hameed St, Keselwatta.
Investigations have also uncovered that the black color motor cycle has not been registered with the Department of Motor Traffic. Defence Ministry approval is required for this type of superbike, which is only allowed to be used on race tracks.
Police suspect that the motorcycle was imported into the country by the son of a prominent figure in the previous government.
Meanwhile the suspect arrested during the operation has been remanded after being produced at the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.
