
Several industries will start as Joint Ventures or sole investments that could generate many employment opportunities in the coming weeks, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.
A tire manufacturing plant will be started tomorrow (5) in Horana. In addition, a glove manufacturing company will too be commenced in the Koggala Free Trade Zone, according to the Government Information Department. The 12 acre factory will generate 7000 job opportunities, the Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine added.
Meanwhile, Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo said a sub committee has been appointed to monitor the rice supply and price situation. “It’s Chairman is Minister Sarath Amunugama and Minister P. Harrison is also a member,” he said.
Yesterday, Rural Economic Affairs Minister P. Harrison however said he would resign from his post if someone can uncover facts to substantiate the allegation that he manipulated the prices of rice. Leading rice mill owner Dudley Sirisena, brother of President Maithripala Sirisena, made the allegation during a news conference held last week.
