“Obtaining loans for infrastructure development and selling off national assets are two entirely different things,” MP Namal Rajapaksa said on Sunday.

He made the observation while responding to a Facebook live Q&A.

“When this Government is destroying the future of the country by selling national assets, we have to try to prevent it. We can’t stand by and do nothing. If we don’t protest, it will be too late and we will have no opportunity to rectify it in the future. We are fighting for you, the future generation,” he said.

He also went on to say, “Once we form a government, we will investigate the corruption and illegal transactions that are now taking place under the Yahapalanaya government. We will do so following the established law of the country. We can assure that proper action will be taken against all the culprits of the Yahapalanaya government.”

Some of the questions and answers:

Jeremy Samarasekera: Why did you stop helping the SL rugby team? As I believe sports don’t have a party?

Namal Rajapaksa: I haven’t given up helping our rugby teams at all. I’m currently helping the CH rugby team and a few other teams at smaller schools with the coaching. I’m also trying to help out with other individual sports.

Satheesh Kumar: Sir, what you think about salary increment of upcountry tea workers.

Namal Rajapaksa: Workers are always entitled to a decent salary, but in order for that to happen, the industry must also develop. What is lacking now, on the part of the present government, is the focus on developing the industry.

Gayal Inoshan: Hi Namal. I am from USA. My question is, are you confident enough about strength of joint opposition and its publicity among people of SL for upcoming elections?

Namal Rajapaksa: Yes, we are confident. It’s the people’s mandate and choice that will decide who will lead the country. What we are seeing now is that support for the Opposition both in Parliament and among the people is growing steadily.

WK Mendis: What measures have you taken towards winning the hearts of Tamils and Muslims from northern and eastern provinces?

Namal Rajapaksa: I always believe in national unity. As you know, my Father Mahinda Rajapaksa did a lot of work in the northern and eastern provinces to uplift the living standards of the people in those regions. However, some people have been misled.

Kelum Darshana: What about your plan for next election. With SLFP?  or Without SLFP?

Namal Rajapaksa: Next election, we will establish a broader alliance which even SLFP could be a part of.
