Entering the third year of my tenure, I am happy about what we have been able to achieve collectively as a country, President Maithripala Sirisena said on Sunday.
He made the observation while speaking at the 2nd anniversary ceremony of the new government held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference hall.
The new poverty alleviation program “Grama Shakthi” will provide a platform for the village communities to overcome poverty by themselves, the President underlined.
“Let’s think as one nation, we can rise as a great and prosperous nation, where everybody can live happily,” he said.
President Sirisena also went on to say that the freedom of speech has been restored under the rule of new government. “Not a single journalist was killed after the new government came to power,” he stressed.
