
President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed a special task force to make preparations to face the drought, with the participation of all related institutions.
The President will chair the special task force, which will meet on a weekly basis, while it will consist of all relevant ministries, the President’s Media Division said.
Earlier today, the President said he has given instructions to officials to get the assistance of the tri-forces in addition to the contribution of the public servants in the process of providing reliefs to the people affected by drought in the country.
Minister of Disaster Management Anura Priyadarshana Yapa says that there will be a lack of rain fall leading to a severe a drought during the coming three months and urged the public to use water and electricity carefully.
