Sri Lanka says its relations with the US are on an upward trajectory since the election of President Maithirpala Sirisena on January 8, 2015.
The observation was made in Washington during a programme on Sri Lanka at a reception hosted by Ambassador Prasad Kariyawasam for members and guests of the WAC-DC at the Sri Lanka Residence, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
Addressing the audience, Ambassador Kariyawasam also referred to attributes of Sri Lanka in relation to its history, geo-strategic location, natural resources and physical quality of life of the people.
“Relations are now poised to advance further as the United States and the international community welcome a new U.S. Administration,” the statement added.
