MP Namal Rajapaksa on Monday pleaded not guilty to contempt charges filed against him by the Anti Graft Commission at the Supreme Court.
The case was taken up before a three-member bench and the Counsel appearing on behalf of Rajapaksa apprised the Court that his client is ready to give a statement before the Bribery Commission, Ada Derana reporter said. The Counsel has also argued that the Bribery Commission should present the charges that had been filed against Namal Rajapaksa.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption had earlier filed the case against the former President’s son stating that the MP had failed to appear to give a statement with regard to an ongoing investigation despite being summoned by the commission.
The case will be heard again on 31 January.
