The Anti-Corruption Front (ACF) has sought a response from the CBSL Governor and Secretary to the Finance Ministry regarding reports that former CBSL Governor Arjuna Mahendran is serving the ministry in an advisory capacity.
The ACF also condemned the fact that the two officials have yet failed to respond to letters that it forwarded to them on 24 and 25 January in this regard.
However, today’s letter was sent amid the Ministry of Finance has already rejected allegations that the former Governor is serving the ministry in an advisory capacity.
“The Ministry of Finance wishes to inform that Mr Arjuna Mahendran, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, is not working in any capacity in the Ministry of Finance,” the Ministry said in a statement earlier.
The Sri Lankan-born international banker was appointed to the helm of the central bank in January 2015, after Maithripala Sirisena was elected as President. His term was not renewed after a year due to the controversy surrounding a Treasury bond issue by the Central Bank.
