Rs.1 million fine for smuggling foreign cigarettes

A court in Dambulla on Thursday has imposed a fine of Rs.1 million on two individuals for smuggling foreign cigarettes worth over Rs. 3.5 million, Ada Derana reporter said.
Dambulla Magistrate Kulatunga Bandara has also ordered to confiscate a van which was used to transport the haul.
Suspects have been identified as Mohammed Anwar and Muhammad Rasik who are residents of Aranayaka, Gataberiya.
They were arrested by a group of policemen attached to the Dambulla police last evening.
